Description
You buying a picture marked CCXCVII (1836)
plate number 60. Believed to be done in London. Drawn from nature by J.J. Audubon, engraved, printed and colored by Robert Havell, 1836. Watermarked: " J. Whatman 1836 " Sheet size: 25 x 38 inches. Overall measurement with brown matting in approximately 42" x 32."
This is believed to be from the first edition of "Birds of America."
My understanding is that this drawings of the Harlequin Ducks were done by Audubon and his son, John Woodhouse, near Eastport, Maine.
The Harlequin Duck is named both because of its multi-colored feathers.
