    Description

Steel Railroad Spike  Garden Walk Thru Entry Gate, Iron Art. How this 400 lb piece of Architecture came about over 18 months........... I originally lived in Lake Meade development in Pennsylvania. 11 Sedgewick Dr. To be exact. My fiancee at the time was a incredible horticultural landscape designer. Our back yard was filled with sprawling gardens and we had the idea since I was a 5th generation stonetradesman that I would construct 2 stone columns as a doorway to one of the lower garden entrances. Over the course of many months we bought steel skeleton keys and eventually arranged them with barn hinges and welded them all together as a door. My sister Krissy and I are standing by that door in the posted picture. (Sorry it's not a better picture). It ended up being a very unique piece of art that complemented the gardens. That inspired me to craft this beautiful 400lb gate. Over several years we arranged the round cylinder wheels made up of railroad spikes. This was not easy because we had to buy spikes that were the same length. If they  were any longer it wouldn't work because it has to fit just right. The outside frame is 1.5 thick hammered steel. The gate latch is from an early 1800's farmhouse.  There are several uses that I considered making this for. The foremost would be for an entrance gate. The second would be for an illusion that the gate be placed at an angle to create the effect of a door to another world. The third purpose would be an overhead trellis for Listeria or vines to grow on. The dimensions are 39 3/4 Wide, 85 1/4 Height, 1.5" Thick. This gate must be picked up at my 17040 location. Buyer assumes all shipping costs. It can easily be loaded on the back of a pick up bed. Please ask any questions before committing to purchase. Thank you kindly.
    Condition is primitive rusty.
