    Description

Description: Incredible 100% Original Native American Indian Beaded Hide Leather Moccasins, includes detachable high-ankle beaded hide cuffs and handwritten provenance. Sewn in soles, or areas for the heel and front of foot. Beautiful glass beads are hand sewn on the cuffs and on the moccasins to form an intricate floral design. INCREDIBLE!
    Measures: 9" L x 3.5" W x 3.5" H.
This pair was found in a Victorian camel-back trunk (item #223) with a handwritten note by Elizabeth Kent Adams, explaining the history of how these authentic moccasins were brought to Virginia from California in a personal trade between Mr. Adams and a Native American Indian tribe along a route while working as a land surveyor for the Union Pacific Railroad, in the Early 1900's.
Elizabeth Kent Adams father, a land surveyor, who at the time was working for the Union Pacific Railroad, was an unheralded vanguard of the Old West who established original geographical boundaries and identified existing borders. One of the most exciting careers at the time, and perhaps, the hardest and most dangerous as not only did the position require part-geologist, part-engineer, part-astronomer, but also these mapmakers acted as arbitrators when land lines were in dispute. The Victorian Era is well known for its history in battle and war over land disputes, especially during this time.
Condition: Well preserved condition. Has original wear from when E.A. Kent's father received them, in the late Victorian Era. One has wear on the bottom from use. Some loose thread and a small amount of loss of glass beads. PLEASE USE PHOTO'S AS PART OF YOUR BUYING PROCESS. This pair has been stored in the trunk, in a climate controlled area, since the early 1900's. The hide is in great condition, still soft and well preserved.
