    Description

A pre-prohibition era antique advertising thermometer for Abbott "Aged Bitters". Prohibition was from 1920-1933. This thermometer shows a man pouring bitters into a cocktail. This version of the thermometer says, " For Better Flavored Drinks Use Abbott "Aged" Bitters. Best For Cocktails Since 1872". With Prohibition the thermometer was changed to show a man pointing to the bitters bottle and the wording was changed to "Tones the Stomach, Improves the Appetite and Aids Digestion" eliminating all reference to drinking.
The thermometer is over 100 years old and in very good condition. It still accurately tells the temperature. There is a crack in the glass face of the thermometer but doesn't take away from the overall quality of the piece. There are no missing pieces of glass. The casing of the thermometer is copper. The thermometer face is 9" round and 1 1/4" thick. A copper hook extends from the top for hanging.
